The Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler Camp is located in Conyers, Georgia, about 30 miles east of the occupied city of Atlanta. Over the past 25 years this camp continues in growth and still remains one of the most active in the state.
The Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler Camp continues to be active in the community with participation in the Conyers Fall Heritage Festival and the Battle of Atlanta Re-enactment at the Georgia International Horse Park, and with continuing participation with the Rockdale County Historical Society historical preservation projects. On October 1, 1994 the camp erected a Confederate Memorial Wall at the Covington City Cemetery, Confederate Section. This is the largest memorial built in Georgia in the past 64 years. In 2006 we helped in a episode of the PBS series "History Detectives". On December 2007 we placed a Conyers-Rockdale County Confederate museum display at the Rockdale County Historical Society's "Old Jail Museum". The Museum is open to the public and no admission charge is required.
On April 25, 1906, General Stephen Dill Lee, one of the few remaining senior officers of the Confederate army and Commanding General of the United Confederate Veterans, spoke to the Sons of Confederate Veterans who had come along with their fathers for the UCV Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. The following is that “Charge” given to them that day:

The Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler Camp #863 Sons of Confederate Veterans lives by that “Charge” given to us that day.
